What We Offer
We are in Suite 205 of Hosanna House (HHI) on the second floor. We primarily serve families living in the Borough of Wilkinsburg. On a case by case basis members of nearby communities may be eligible to enroll in our center.
Families may choose to participate in our center to meet their social, recreational and/or service needs. There are quarterly birthday for children sponsored by Beverly’s Birthdays. We recognize adult birthdays after Parent Council meetings each month. We end our summer programming with a swim party at the Hosanna House Sherwood Event Center. There are holiday celebrations and special events held in our center as well as HHI Wallace Event Center.
What is Family Support?
Family support is a family-focused approach to human service delivery. It is community based and there are no eligibility requirements for participation. As opposed to identifying and fixing what is wrong, family support focuses on identifying and building upon family strengths.
Strength Based
Family Support is strength based, building on existing individual, family, community and cultural abilities and vitalities.
Relationship Based
Family Support is relationship based, fostering respectful partnerships between and among parents, peers and professional.
Collaborative
Family Support services are designed by and for participants to meet their priorities and are collaborative among agencies to insure easy access and use.
Community Based
Family Support services are based in the community, serve the entire family, without eligibility requirements and are voluntary.
Community Designed
Family Support is governed, designed and improved by participants and community members.
Enhances Cultures
Family Support reflects respects and enhances the cultures of the neighborhood through the staff it hires the materials and activities it provides.
Family Improvements
Family Support services are enhanced through program evaluations that reflect family support principles and that contribute to continuous program improvement.
Five Protective Factors for Strengthening Families
Strengthening Families™ is a research-informed approach to increase family strengths, enhance child development, and reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect. It is based on engaging families, programs, and communities in building five protective factors:
- Parental resilience
- Social connections
- Knowledge of parenting and child development
- Concrete support in times of need
- Social and emotional competence of children
