Group Events for Concrete Support

WFSC adheres to the precepts of the Five Protective Factors for Strengthening Families. Protective factors are characteristics or strengths of individuals, families, communities or societies that act to mitigate risks and promote positive well-being and healthy development.

Concrete support in times of need: Access to concrete support and services that address a family’s needs and help minimize stress caused by challenges.  One of the most popular “concrete support” offered at WFSC is our monthly pantry distribution.  Families enrolled in our center call to RSVP their attendance and their family information is entered in the PantryTrak system provided by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

If you are not enrolled with WFSC you must complete the enrollment process at least 24 hours prior to our monthly distribution.  You may complete enrollment in person or over the phone. You must live in the Borough of Wilkinsburg and have children under 18 years of age in your household at the time of enrollment.  We are unable to enroll any new families on the day we distribute food.

Other types of concrete support is participation in our annual Toys for Toys distribution for enrolled families; special giveaway programs offered to our center during the Thanksgiving-Christmas holiday season and unscheduled special donations.  We also receive donations from 412 Food Rescue and make those contributions available to our families as well.

To find out if your family is eligible to participate in our Pantry Distribution or other concrete support events please contact us.
